Hi, I am Pieter De Backer, a Belgian medical doctor as well as a civil engineer. I am very passionate about technology in medicine and I lead a team of engineers and physicians in building future proof systems that help objectivate, assess and teach robotic surgery at Orsi Academy, nearby the lovely city of Ghent.
Orsi Academy is one of the world's largest training centres for minimal invasive surgery, with access to a myriad of technologies, including robotic soft tissue surgery, endovascular angio suites and minimal invasive orthopedics.
Apart from leading the AI team from a clinical-technical point of view, I also perform clinical work as medical doctor in the urology department at Ghent University Hospital with a specific focus on urologic oncology.
