Driven by medical innovation, I pursued my medical degree (MD) after a short stop in the robotics industry following the completion of my engineering degree in electromechanics and biomedical engineering (ir).

As surgeon/urologist in training, I am passionate about delivering safer and more patient-centered surgery.

I lead the Surgical AI group at Orsi Academy, one of the worlds' largest robotic training centres.
My team focusses on applications of Machine and Deep Learning techniques in minimal invasive surgery and patient-specific predictive computer models derived from imaging.

Before starting my medical degree, I gained hands-on experience in micro-technology through development of world's first electronic artificial iris contact lens at CMST-imec in 2013, now commercialized through Azalea Vision.
I also have 6 years experience in 3D visualisation and 3D printing as co-founder of 3DGuidedsurgery.com and PrintPlace.be.

I regularly provide lectures on 3D modeling and Artificial Intelligence in surgery for both medical/technical profiles as well as people new to the topic.
Next to this, I am an elected member of the AI committee at the European Association of Endoscopic surgery (EAES), I teach in the first Belgian interuniversity course on Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and I am responsible for the surgical AI activities at AI4Health.
