My courses

I teach a number of courses at Ghent University, both on Bachelor and Master level.

Mechanics, Vibrations and Waves is a course I teach to a large group of students (around 300), in the 1st year of Bio-Engineering. From 2019 on, the course is organized a bit differently, abandoning the practical 'hands on' sessions, and with a new exam style.

Physics for Pharmacy is an introductory physics course in 1st Bachelor Pharmaceutical Sciences. This is again a very big group of students (of the order of 370). Teaching to such a large group that is - typically - not the least interested in physics is quite challenging, but great fun at the same time. I am lecturing this course together with my colleague Philippe Smet.

Engineering Project is a project-based course which I teach together with two colleagues from other departments. Its purpose is to learn students from 2nd Bachelor year Engineering Physics to set up a simple scientific experiment. The course is thus hands on, and the projects change every year depending on inspiration.

Electronics is an elective course for 2nd and 3rd Bachelor Physics & Astronomy. I have been an electronics hobbyist since I was 14 years old, therefore I teach this course with a lot of enthusiasm. The level of the course is introductory, and involves mainly analog electronics, though basic combinatorial and sequential digital electronics is also covered.

Optical Spectroscopy of Materials is an elective course, offered both to the Master in Physics & Astronomy and Master in Photonics. This is a hands-on course, offering practical experience in a number of experimental techniques. This course is lectured in English ... for which I had to pass an English exam.

Luminescence Again a course in English. Post-doc Jonas Joos is responsible for this course, and I am co-teaching a number of lectures, mainly on colour theory and colour rendition and on electroluminesence.
