I am an experimental psychologist studying language processing. Important topics in my lab are language production, bilingualism, and self-monitoring of speech. I am also interested in cognitive aspects of the use of English as a medium of instruction in higher education.

Over the years, my work has addressed research questions in these domains using a range of methods, including behavioural experiments, eye-tracking, EEG, fMRI, the study of language processing in individuals with brain damage, and computational models.

I teach in the master’s program of Psychology (Introduction to psycholinguistics, Advances in Psycholinguistics, Research Internship) and the bachelor’s program in Speech Therapy and Audiology (Fundamentals of Psychology) at Ghent University.

I was head of the department of experimental psychology (2006-2014), associate editor for Acta Psychologica and Psychological Science, and editor-in-chief of Journal of Cognitive Psychology.
