Hi! I'm a PhD student in Mathematics at Ghent University

Me

About me

My name is Jari Desmet, and currently I am in the final year of my PhD at Ghent University, under the supervision of Tom De Medts. My research is funded by FWO - Research Foundation Flanders .

Research area

To a layman: I like symmetries and objects that are symmetrical in some very specific ways. More specifically, my PhD concerns a certain class of non-associative algebras, that are related to algebraic groups. This includes an interest in a range of topics, such as Lie algebras, representation theory, Jordan algebras, axial algebras and the like.

Other

Apart from Mathematics, I spend most of my time playing handball at Handbalclub Elita Lebbeke. I also like the occasional boardgame, and you can always make me happy with your worst puns. Please send them to me, and maybe I will start compiling a list at some point.
