I'm a member of the Dutch Linguistics Department at Ghent University and affiliated with the contrastive grammar research group Contragram.
My research focuses on the syntax and semantics of argument structure constructions in Dutch and related languages, from a corpus-based and (broadly) construction grammatical perspective. My 2006 Ph.D. dissertation (in Dutch) presents a detailed corpus investigation of the constructions involved in the dative alternation in Dutch. I'm particularly interested in:
- the relation between verbal and constructional semantics
- issues of language-internal variation and change in the semantics of argument structure constructions
- the syntax and semantics of three-place argument structure constructions in Dutch, and their (pseudo-)equivalents in related languages
- the integration of corpus-based methodologies in Construction Grammar
Other research interests include:
- the grammar of supraregional Belgian Dutch
- dialect syntax
- valency lexicography and the representation of grammatical information in general dictionaries
- the language of football
As a predoctoral researcher, I was involved in the compilation of a hypertext Dutch-French-English verb valency dictionary.
