Getting to Ghent

By train (from Brussels International Airport)

Trains leave from within the airport building and take you to one of the main railway stations in Brussels (subsequently Noord/Nord, Centraal/Central and Zuid/Midi), where you can switch to one of the many intercity trains (IC) to Gent Sint-Pieters, Ghent's main railway station (Trains to Brugge, Knokke, Blankenberge and Oostende also stop in Ghent). Some trains run directly from the airport to Gent Sint-Pieters. These trains reach Ghent in about 1 hour. Train schedules can be retrieved from the website of the Belgian railway company (from “Brussels airport” to “Gent Sint-Pieters”).

By train (from Brussels South/Charleroi Airport)

Except for the main airport, there is also the Brussels South/Charleroi Airport, which hosts mainly low cost airlines e.g. Ryanair. There are shuttle buses leaving right outside the main building at regular intervals to the Brussels South train station (Brussel Zuid/Bruxelles Midi). From there you can take one of the many intercity trains (IC) to Gent Sint-Pieters, as described above (see instructions from International Airport).

By car

Ghent can easily be reached from the national roads E40 (from Brussel or Oostende/Brugge) or E17 (from Antwerpen or Kortrijk).
