PhD vacancy on Motivation for Pro-Environmental Behavior

A 4-year PhD position is available at the lab of Ruth Krebs at the Dept. of Experimental Psychology, Faculty of Psychology and Educational Science at Ghent University (Belgium). The project focuses on the role of motivation and cognitive effort in guiding pro-environmental behavior. The position is funded by the FWO (Flemish Research Foundation).

The candidate will develop and implement novel experimental paradigms to understand motivational underpinnings of pro-environmental behavior, with a special focus on the role of cognitive effort. In an attempt to improve external validity of our measures, we will combine our experimental approach with the assessment of real-life behavior. The project will be interconnected with a larger team working on motivation and cognitive control at our Faculty, as well as international collaborations on psychology and climate change. Moreover, at our department we organize regular talk series with local and international speakers presenting diverse topics in cognitive psychology and neuroscience, fostering scientific exchange and collaborations.

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in experimental psychology, cognitive science, environmental psychology, or a related discipline at the start of the contract. Prior research experience and advanced statistical and programming skills are an asset.

The starting date for this position is between September 1st and December 1st 2024.

The call closes May 31st 2024.

Interested candidates should send their CV, a motivation letter, and contact information of at least two referees to ruthmkrebs@gmail.com. Feel free to contact me via email for further information.
