The position will lead to tenure. In case of a first
appointment as a professor, the Board of Directors of Ghent University may
decide to grant a temporary appointment for a duration of maximum three years
possibly leading to tenure after a positive evaluation.

Candidates get the opportunity to develop their language skills in view of
their involvement in teaching activities.

Research
This
department of Educational Studies is responsible for educational research in a
variety of fields; such as:
·
Culture and literacies
·
ICT in Higher Education
·
ICT in Primary & Secundary Education
·
Teacher professional development
·
Educational policy and educational administration
The
department wants to expand the number of professors focusing on the “Didactics
of language teaching and communication skills”.
This implies
that the candidate can develop research in a wide field of study and build on
earlier studies and current research themes in the department, or develop new
research themes that strengthen the research position of the department and
faculty. Research can centre on microlevel, mesolevel and macrolevel
educational research. Research can build on a variety of research
methodologies. Both qualitative and quantitative traditions are strongly
developed and applied in the research of the department.
The new
lecturer / senior lecturer is – next to setting up his/her own research -
expected to:
·
attract research funds;
·
support Ph.D research;
·
support M.Sc. research.
Teaching
The new professor is expected to take up a teaching responsibility at bachelor and/or masters level; such as Communication skills, Didactics of language teaching (German, English, Dutch, …). In close
collaboration with the other academic staff of the department, the new lecturer
/ senior lecturer will take a responsibility in developing and implementing
some curriculum subjects. It is a clear policy of the department to pay
attention to an innovative educational design of a course.
Scientific
services
This can
embrace:

membership of editorial boards;
·
membership of conference organizing committees;
·
involvement in the evaluation of scientific research
proposals;
·
scientific consultancy for international bodies;

Job
Requirements
As stated in
the job description, the following selection criteria apply:
·
on the day of application, candidates should hold a
PhD degree with doctoral thesis or a degree recognized as equivalent;
·
candidates are required to have research experience in
the field of study concerned, proven by recent publications in national and
international peer reviewed journals;
·
candidates are required to have actively participated in
international and national scientific meetings relevant for the field of study
concerned;
·
having experience in international mobility, amongst
others through participation in research programmes at research institutions
not linked to the university where the highest degree was obtained, is
recommended;
·
candidates are required to possess the necessary
didactic, organizational and communicative skills for teaching at an academic
(graduate / postgraduate) level. Time and opportunities will be given to develop
Dutch language skills.
