Derrick Philippe GOSSELIN (°1956) is senior full professor of strategy & marketing and director (founder) of the Institute for Futures Research (Centrum voor Toekomstverkenning) at Ghent University, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. He specializes in complex (long term) decision making in turbulent and uncertain environments applied to business (strategy - marketing - innovation) and government (energy - water - technology).

He started his career in 1982 as attaché (science policy) in the office of the Belgian Prime Minister before joining Arthur Andersen & Co. in 1984. From 1990 till 2001, he worked for the Alcatel-Alsthom group were he held various senior executive positions. As of 1999, he was vice president marketing and business development for Northern & Central Europe (including Japan and Korea) and chairman of the European strategic marketing special task force.

He jointed the Suez group in 2002 and was appointed executive vice president and chief strategy officer of Suez Energy International in 2003. He was on the board of several Suez companies in USA, Peru, Oman,.. . and in charge of a special marketing task force at Suez group level during 2004. He was appointed group senior vice president development and strategy of Suez Group (Paris HQ) in 2007 till the merger with Gaz de France in 2008 when the group became GDF Suez. He introduced as of 2004 new decision process linking strategy development - risk management - innovation management based on strategic scenario planning increasing the quality of decision taking in turbulent environments. He served as Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister of the Government of Flanders (Belgium) from 2009 till 2011(cf. New Industrial Policy).
