Prof. Dr. Christophe Scholliers heads the theory and practice of programming research lab at the Faculty of Sciences (Department of Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics).
TOPL is a research laboratory dedicated to research in the field of ambient intelligence, context aware programming, parallel and distributed programming and type systems. These research fields are partially driven by new hardware innovations. As electronic devices are getting smaller, faster, and cheaper we can expect an exponential growth in the number of embedded devices that surround us. This implies that we will literally be surrounded by a cloud of devices which will offer us new or additional behavior. Programming these devices with current main stream programming languages is hard. At our research laboratory we investigate which programming language abstractions and tools might ease the development of such innovate applications.
