Within this research area, both in vitro and in vivo studies are performed to study the ruminant metabolism, with emphasis on the rumen and its interaction with the intermediate metabolism. Fatty acids and their metabolism are a keynote in the current research. Novel data mining techniques are explored to develop diagnostic models based on milk fatty acid patterns for improved ruminant nutrition.

o         Fatty acid metabolism during forage conservation, in the rumen and in the mammary gland and their interactions

o         Milk fatty acid pattern in diagnostic milk based tests for improved dairy nutrition

o         Control of rumen methanogenesis

o         Policy and sector supporting projects
